I've been using Adsense since Sept. 8 and just found this board 2 days ago. I have been reading all the posts and trying to apply all the advice to my site. I have a lot of work to do to optimize the site for Adsense, including a complete redesign, but since this is my sole source of income and I do everything myself, it's hard to find the time for everything!

The help and advice on this board is amazing, particularly from Debs, who really seems to have it all together! You go Girl!! I hope you will have some words of wisdom for me if you get a chance! I also read about Allen's illness and am glad to see that you seem to be doing well with your recovery. You've built a great site that's helping a lot of people!!

I've got all the basic qualities for my site to do well with Adsense, but I know it could do so much better. Trying to figure out how to get better search engine placement and what works best for the ads is a bit confusing.

Anyway, I'm here to learn and appreciate the sharing of information! Any advice is welcomed!

Dee,
Awesome site! I spent some time just enjoying the cartoons and posts. I'll be sure and pop in now that I know I am not alone lol

I hope you'll get a chance to give me some pointers on things I can do to improve my Adsense results! Smile

I personally think you're brilliant on this topic! Smile

Hey, you're welcome to join in the Minnie Pauz forum too! I just started a new one that is exactly the same format as this one and I love it.

Dee, I just took a look at your site. My recommendation is to use the inline rectangle and skyscraper formats on some of your pages rather than the leaderboard throughout. Also, leaderboards at the bottom of a page are less likely to be seen and clicked.

Also, you might want to experiment with different colors.

Thanks for the feedback..... I'll definitely consider what you've suggested.
I've switched them around before (regarding top or bottom) and it's very hard to tell if it makes any difference since we can't tell what page or which ad is getting the most clicks.

I also wanted to mention that yesterday was my worst day in 3 mo. with Adsense and I can only guess that it was because I posted here and so many people were checking out my site. That was depressing! It even brought my average down considerably. Maybe I gave too much information in my quest for help?

I don't think it had anything to do with you posting here. Yesterday was also my worst day and I've been in the program almost 5 months. And my content is completely different than yours. Today isn't looking any better either.

I don't know what your definition of "considerably" is, but even if your earnings were 0 for the day, it would have had a miniscule impact on your averages if you have been in the program for 3 months.

Well, I consider a drop of $8 over both of the last two days, considerable. Maybe it is because suddenly people are shopping for the Holidays instead of the type of ads that run on my site. Or maybe it's that time of month when advertisers just don't pay as much.....who knows? Yesterday's page impressions were the highest ever and way out of proportion to the click thru's, so the % was really low and I realized that I shouldn't have posted my site....duh! Well, anyway....it's done.....lesson learned.

I think you are overreacting here. So what if your impressions were high and your click thru rate was low for one day? What difference does that make? You wanted feedback, so how can that be given without looking at your site?

And you certainly can't attribute lower earnings to your post here.

I'd also be interested in what others have to say.

You may be right. I'll give it a few more days before I make any rash judgements. Yes, I did post the website and ask for feedback...you and Debs are the only ones who bothered to respond.

I see that you prefer not to post your site or a name. Is there a reason for that?

I have never posted my site on any message board because I'm concerned about fraudulent clicks. You never know when someone wants to be vengeful.

Since my screen name, if I registered, would have no correlation to my site, I've just never bothered to register since I have so many different login IDs for various message boards I participate on.

Minnie, Do keep in mind the time of year Smile as that will dramatically affect sites not specific to the season and the rush! My site has also taken a dramatic hit and I was concerned until a friend pointed out ... "who wants to think about debt during Christmas shopping season..." and they are right! I figure a huge increase in January however as those Christmas bills start coming in.

First, welcome to the forum.

Second, you really can't tell anything in a few days. Our numbers per day vary by a factor of 500%! Often, there is no rhyme or reason.

I think you'll probably draw wrong conclusions if you don't give it more time. But that's really good news. Very Happy

Thanks Audri.... I've been spending some time going through your site too and appreciate the tips you offer. After discovering all this great info about Adsense, I've really been scrambling to try to optimize my site, but whether it was a coincidence or not, I was surprised by the dramatic flip-flop in my results. I had been gradually increasing my daily avg. since Sept., definitely with the dips on the weekends like everyone else, but I was surprised at the last few days. I monitor my site stats very closely and am certainly used to the ebb and flow of the traffic. I find similar lulls in my merchandise sales. November has been increasing in all areas, so after I added the code to more pages and tweaked keywords, etc., it just didn't seem logical. I was about half afraid that I had tweaked something the wrong way! Smile

I think my biggest problem is the menopausal brain fog I'm dealing with lately! I have to read things over and over before it sinks in, then I have to remember something I just did.....it's not easy being green (or middle-aged!).

Not sure what you meant here: "I think you'll probably draw wrong conclusions if you don't give it more time. But that's really good news"
but I'm not giving up by any means. Smile I just want to do the best I can with what I have. I've been building my "community" for over 5 years and had NO ads on it for all that time. Now I'm excited about the possibility of making some money off all the work I've put into the site! Smile

Thanks again for the feedback!

Sorry I didn't get back to you yesterday, Debs. I'm definitely aware of the time of year as it relates to sales and what people buy and when, but hormones know no season, so it hasn't really been a factor for me. I have a variety of revenue streams with my business, so income is not dependent on people buying one product for a specific reason. I guess I'm fortunate in that way, but I also have to recreate myself constantly to keep a steady flow of $$$. Actually, I haven't seen anything STEADY for over 5 years, but at least it's kept me out of the poor house so far! Smile

I truly believe every business has to diversify these days and always coming up with something new and exciting to attract your target market. I happen to be fortunate to have something unique that the huge niche of babyboomer women want......ESTROGEN!! No, not really....just couldn't help myself. Smile It's really chocolate we want.... ok, I'm getting weird and off the subject. I think I need to go draw a cartoon. Smile
