I did a backup for the MySQL databse file of my web site as a zip file. When I try to open the saved file I get the message ?Please enter the full name of the file contained within the archive?? MySQLbackup.gz. For example, if the contents is a DOC file, a recommended filename is phpbb1.doc?. Now what shall I use as file extension in order to read the MySQL database file? Please help..

Regards

MySQLbackup.gz

If I remember right then .gz is Gzip format used in ZIpping files in Linux...
if it's the case then you might need to winzip or some other archive file software which you can found it at www.download.com

GnuZip is a compression format that isn't platform specific, in that you can open gzipped documents with a number of applications on a variety of different operating systems and OS versions. PKZIP, StuffIt (on the mac), and a variety of other applications can extract data from gzip archives. I also recommend going to Download.com for more information.

If you want to read the data contained in a .SQL file, it's really simple, actually. You can open the file in Notepad, Word, BBEdit, Dreamweaver, or any other application that can read and write text files. Because, that's all a SQL file is: text.

Hope this helps.
