I just started my own affiliate program. But after reading the many posts here I see that so many are hooked up with larger affiliate networks.

Is there a problem with independent affiliate networks? Do the normal affiliates only join befree, cj, and linkshare?

I really dont want to join a giant affiliate since the fees are just so high. I am thinking about shareasale because the costs seem reasonable. Anyone have good or bad thoughts about them?

PM me if you want to know more about my program. It's also in the Blantant Promote forums. I sell video games btw. I been in business for 8 years and have been an online retailer since 97.

I'm not sure I'm a "normal" anything (let alone affiliate), but I voted anyway...

No problem with independents, in my view. I must admit, I tend to only join programs when I know something about the people involved, though. Trust is certainly more of an issue.

Incidentally, from my point of view, your third option applies to all affiliate programs.

All the best,
Charlie.

I agree with Charlie. I will test independent programs to build a trust factor if needed, particularly if the product is a great fit with my site, and one I can feel comfortable about endorsing.

if two similar programs i found.
One in network, and one independent.

The one in a network has no advantage over the independent one if
the independent program offer payement option

1. money bookers - ( i like most )
2. neteller
3. Paypal

For me the trust issue is as much a matter of the affiliate tracking as the payment method.

Cheers,
Charlie.

i do not trust postal mail either

check lost, check missing, check damage, check mistakes,
check stealing, clearing charge, hold funds, etc.

i withdraw my balance before they reach a big sum of money.
Thus, it would not be a big risk to me at all.

Let's the new thing replace the old thing.

It is also the trust factor prevent certain people to buy online.

paperless economy is the way to go in future.

I prefer auto payment systems, too, but I was meaning I need to be able to trust that any customers I am referring are being properly recorded.

If no commissions are being earned, it doesn't matter what the payment method is.

Cheers,
Charlie.

Overall, I participate in more independent programs than the alternative.

Sure independent or not, I'll participate ... I will do a little research if possible into the business through newsgroups, forums, etc. and try and find some information from a 3rd party.

For some topics you don't even have a choice.
In the past I have made good experiences with independent programs. But as already stated, you have to do some research beforehand.
