Hi everyone,

I want to start promoting my business online.

My business is Advertising Specialties, products with your company name or logo imprinted on it.

I'm almost done my website that I'm doing my self.

I don't know if I have the wrong impression of a Blog.

First-- can a blog be used to promote a business or product?

Second--- if a blog can be used to promote a business or product, how?

Third---- can one use a blog to promote without promoting their website, etc?

The reason I ask is because I want to start promoting on the web and don't even know where to start.

Was thinking that a blog can help me?

Thanks,

Marc

Hi mpossoff,

Welcome,

Blogs face the same problems as web sites as both require to get found to drive traffic.

Following a good SEO strategy for your site will maximise the possibilities of gaining good organic listings.

If you include a blog then you will have to publish and post you blog in as many places as possible.

Short term you can use PPC to get traffic whilst your site and blog find their way through the search results.

Sadly there is no magic wand in the e-commerce world and long term sustainability requires a lot of hard work to succeed.

Good luck in your venture.

Thanks Tayads!

A good SEO strategy? I'm new to e-commerce and don't know even where to begin with that.

Can you elaborate on "organic listing".

Where can I find the hows on a good SEO strategy?

I know there is no magic wand and everyone seems to SELL their secrets. Everyone has a secret, lol!

PPC's? Pay Per Click. Since I'm new to the e-commerce world I don't know what to do with PPC.

Thanks!

Marc

The internet has become a daunting and complex place and the goal posts appear to be moving all the time with gaining good organic rankings with the search engines. Organic being the natural position of a web site in the listings.

There are many specialised areas such as SEO, SEM and PPC and requires a lot of research and you have to constantly keep up with changes.

If you are comfortable with study then you can find loads of free relevant info and it takes time for the changes to bring benefits.

Alternatively you can employ professionals to do the work for you.

A good starting point for newbies is to get to grips with the basics of SEO with making sure you have a good <title> with your main keyword appearing. Don't dilute the content, stick to one topic on one page, make sure your site is indexable by the spiders by including a site map.
Text content is better then images or flash.

The list goes on and I could turn this post into a book. There is a lot of good info in this forum already covering these topics and if you decide to DIY then read all you can and do it all in stages.

Good luck
