because of my recent pc disaster i'm starting all over agian. i've never been a great one for blogging, i've played around on blogger, but nothing serious, they don't make any money and i haven't updated them with any regularity.
the question is that i heard .... somewhere, that unless you attach a blog to a website, it won't get indexed .... that quickly. is this true?
so if i went full steam ahead with just a blog, would it all be invain?
i have to create a diary as a part of my university course, and i thought of creating a blog as part of my diary, but i'd like to create a good stream of revenue from it as-well.
would the blog work on it's own or do i need a website aswell? |

I only have Blogger blogs and I don't earn much from them (yet). I think that Google looks at how long a blog has been up, how many posts are on it, and, yes, whether or not there are backlinks to it. I don't think that getting a backlink is hard--I've heard that all it takes is to swap links with other bloggers.
You can also try to index your site with google here.
That's all I know. I'm still learning the ropes about blogging. _________________ Engaging Pages: find freelance writing leads and more

Why do the search engines favor blogs over Web sites? Is it because blogs tend to contain regularly updated content? _________________ Engaging Pages: find freelance writing leads and more

A blog will work on it's own without a website. Blogger.com is owned by Google so it is a easy place to start.
What you still have to learn is how to get traffic to it. Treat it like a website. Master every way and any way you can to get people coming to your blog and coming back.
Monetize it with Google Adsense and add affiliate programs to your posts when relevant to the theme of your blog and the post itself.
The nice thing about blogging is how easy you can add content. I used to build hundreds of web pages and even though I got a system down that worked for me it still took time. Now I mostly blog and it is a breeze to just type and that is it. _________________ Jeff Schuman

I'm not so sure that blogging for the sake of blogging is a good enough reason to do it, but I do know this. If you decide to take on this monster, you better be prepared to post often.
Unlike building a web site with great content and focusing on traffic after you've done most of the work, blogging requires almost a daily effort at best and weekly at worst.
I don't know about you, but I'm not that great of a writer and the jury is still out on duplicate content and I think Google is getting pretty tired of duplicate content and will surprise all of us in the next few months.
To find that productive middle ground, I've added blogs and bloggets to my site and try to do something on a weekly basis. (it really sucks)
If you're serious about blogging only, you will do better with your own domain name and wordpress.
I have found better indexing of my site with the addition of the blog and RSS because Google loves the updated content additions.
Just my two cents. _________________ Webmaster Alert

Hi Mattie,
blogging is about supply and demand,
if you can supply something (information) that people will take the time to read,THEN ONLY, will the cents follow

I find that since I added a blog to my site and started posting almost every day with links to my website pages I'm getting spidered more, the pages are getting indexed quicker and I'm getting more traffic.
I don't really try and promote anything off of my blog posts but I do link to product pages on my site from blog posts.
I don't blog for the sake of blogging though just to get traffic, I make sure I have something to write about.
My new content mantra is - new page + blog post (with link to page) + article to submit to directories pointing to page.
I love just being able to rattle off a blog post without having to worry too much about things like on page SEO, layout etc.
Having a blog on my site's domain with an RSS feed that I update a lot has made quite a difference so far and I've only had it under a month. _________________ Do You Really Want To Quit Your Day Job?

All-
Most of my new niche sites are Wordpress blogs. The blog is the site. I find they are indexed very quickly with the commonly used pinging methods and by adding the feeds to My MSN, Yahoo, and Google pages.
After that, submit to blog directories, leave pertinent comments on related blogs, use the social networking sites, article directories, forum posts, etc. In other words, get backlinks.
And post often to get the spiders to return.

Hi all
I just started wit 2 blogs (one on Blogger.com and other on my website) to get more traffic. I get already many backlinks from these blogs, but you have to blog and ping frequently. I am doing it almost daily. It's easier than writing an article.
Cheers
