Hi All,

I wanted to ask your opinions about this Googles penalty for having build too many inbound links in a short period of time

webmasterworld.com/google/3084915.htm

I need to do link building for a client and plan to simply build 10-20 links in a span of 3-6 months. Is that okay?

I plan to get links from good sources NOT blogs or forums. My client sells specialty electronics so i will only go to electronics review sites.

At any rate, this is a small site with currently 50 inbound links. will 20 additional links from quality websites that write orginal electronics reviews be a problem you think, in a 3-6 month window?

NoMoreBill,

You will NOT be penalized for the number of links you mentioned. In fact, you can get many many more links than that and still not be penalized. On the contrary, more inbound links means better search engine placement. The things you need be careful of are:

- Gaining links before the site is even indexed anywhere. Although you may not be penalized for this, you don't want to do anything to red-flag your site.

- Going from X links to X+400 links then staying there. What I mean by this is if your site currently has 10 inbound links and you sign up for one a service that gives you 400 instant links, then that's not really a good thing if you link count stays at 410 links for months after that. It looks artificial and will red-flag your site.

- Not gaining links gradually. Really, the key is to always for links to come in at a gradual and steady pace.

Just keep with the steady pace of inbound links that gradually build up and your golden.

For the number and speed of gathering links, I agree.

But google is also looking at the quality of links. Links from link farms are bad, also from webrings or from link selling sites. And many links with the same exact link text and tag are also bad. That are few examples that come to my mind now, I have read about that.
But I don't know, how much such links one need to have, that google begins to penalize such links.

I think google will not penalize the site if it gets more back links within a short span of time, it will consider it has good search engine placement.

I think google should start ignoring links which they think are irrelevant to web sites than punishing a site for linking to a bad URL. In many cases, one will not know who is linking to his or her site. I think google should go soft on this. Your competitors can harm you site by linking your site to bad neighbourhood or some link farms just to drop your positioning and rankings

The only people who can speak for what Google actually does is Google. I have built in excess of 50 links per day with ZERO problems for SEO. Google is SOFTWARE they don't "Penalize" they filter... trip that filter and BAM... 50 links a day out of Billions of pages is nothing. Plus as hard as you try those links do not all come "live" on the same day.
