The Best Internet Marketing Techniques

Here you can post the best internet marketing techniques you know.

What is working at the moment?
What is hot?

I think free membership sites (made in a certain way) are a very clever techniqe and can be very profitable. I stumble over them permanently. They are very much promoted, because they are viral. They lure you in with some free stuff, and then offer you the possibility to earn as an affiliate by giving away those free memberships. It is so easy for an affiliate. This seems to be the "Butterfly Marketing" model. I have not read Butterfly marketing yet, but I saw sometimes at the bottom "powered by butterfly marketing". Butterfly Marketing is a viral technique. When a butterfly somewhere in the world flaps his wings, then it can be the reason for a hurricane in another part of the world.
When you subscribe as a free Member, then you get an "OTO" (One Time Offer), before you are directed into the membership area. And each affiliate can profit from that OTO, when he gives away free memberships, and that people buys something. Also one can profit when someone does a membership upgrade and maybe from even more things.

The only thing I don't like at those sites is, most sites are so, when you come there, you read something like "Welcome to the member area. Congratulations. You now have free access to ***", but that is not right, one has to subscribe first, and give email and name to get success, and THEN one is being let into the member area to download! That's not honest and pretty sneaky.

Has someone here such a site, and can talk about his experience with it? How hard is it to set up? How profitable is it?

P.S.: Post other good internet marketing techniques here that you know about!

It keeps working for me....

Buy, Use and Know the product you are selling
    Presell!
    Have a unique "voice"
    Offer Rebates & Bonuses
(Optional depending on the site and the audience. For most sites, if you do the first three, people will generally buy from you.

Know your market inside and out. Know it better than 90% of your competitors. Study print periodicals so you know what's going on.

Write things that are relevant enough that print magazine editors will come across it and start thinking.

Write things that fill a niche so well and answer a question that falls between the cracks of the usual recycled web "mush" and the high-end glossy articles. Write these things so well that you earn "links of pure love" from other sites in your niche and the people that want your products.

No competitor has your =mix of interests and skills. Focus on the things you actually like doing that apply to your market. Focus on the things you're naturally good at. Pound away relentlessly in those areas. Leverage your strengths and outsource or try to avoid competing in your weak areas or in things you find deadly boring.

Try to actually help your customers/visitors instead of trying to milk them.

Find online successes who know way more than you and read them every day. The really successful people are barely selling anything. The really successful people have made so much money they could almost care less.

There used to be a simple recipe for online marketing that was supposed to apply to all niches, but I think those days are gone. It's a little more sophisticated now.

Great points, blakekr!

Kudos to you. Wink

Though your point about the really successful people, aren't the well known "gurus" the best earning internet marketers? I think, they milk the last drop out of their customers *lol*.

I definitely don't think the "milkers" are the best internet marketers. I think they're the loudest.

Of course, in order to know for sure I'd have to know them all personally and have a peek in their bank accounts which of course I don't.

But there's something off about a person who learns how to make a LOT of money and still remains fixated on making a LOT of money. Corporations never have enough money, but I think humans find they do, and it doesn't really take a lot.

I think that when people really start pulling in millions a year, and I know some of them who can do this almost without thinking, they tend to become bored with the "milk every last cent out of everyone I can" prospect and start thinking about money differently.

Just MHO.

Allan just sent ot these 2 tips in his last newsletter.

1. Write one article everyday and add it to your website
2. Get 1 backlink to your website everyday

To make this internet marketing technique work you need a website or blog. Then you need to submit your article to article directories or ping your blog post if you are adding your article to your blog.

I like this advice because it leaves nothing to chance. It very specifically tells you what to do everyday and over time it will pay off with a quality website getting quality traffic.

Because I'm ultra cautious about duplicate content, (and the future of duplicate content) I reckon it's best to submit a DIFFERENT article to article directories, not the article you put on your site or blog.

Actually I agree with this. What I do now is submit one article and then write a different version of it if I am building a web page, or I write a 200 word short version if i am blogging. I am getting more cautious as well. Probably from reading your posts Allan. Smile

Allan and Jeff!

I totally agree with you.
At least blog posts and webpages must be original
because readers think they are ( unless you clearly
inform that the article is written by someone else)

However this issue is interesting:if I write an article and distribute it through ArticleMarketer for instance, it goes to hundreds of directories and thousands of email addresses. So every post after the first one is dublicated content, not fresh and unique!

This raises a question: how searious is this issue of originality. Right away when your article becomes popular, it is not unique. Or is a popular article even more unique. Or is this a question, which has a meaning only to search engines?

If it's important to search engines, it's important to me. I'm looking ahead. I'm not just considering what the search engines are doing today. I'm trying to anticipate what the Internet will be like in a few months or a few years when the Internet is even more clogged with trash, duplicate content, and sliughtly rewritten content. The search engines will have to work even even harder to find good sites to rank higher. I predict that sites which contain unique content, or mostly unique content, will do even better than they do now. It's a safe policy. Even if my prediction turns out to be wrong, it's still a very useful thing to do. It's no-lose technique, whatever happens.

Andyz, I have butterfly marketing script.
The script is easy to install but a bit
tricky to setup. But once you've got your
first site running, you'll be able to launch your next sites easily.

Allan Gardyne has a pretty good track record of predicting the future when it comes to the internet. Examples would be his associate programs website, pay per click search engine website, keyword research website, lifetime commissions etc.

So when he speaks about the importance of avoiding duplicate content we had better all listen. Almost every blog post I do now is written about a topic in my words and opinions. Very rarely do I just post an article in it.

When I write an article I submit it and link back to my home page. Maybe i link back to a sub page, but now I re-write it a little to make it different than what the article I am submitting. Or I might just link back to my blog.

This type of deep linking seems to pay off with visitors entering my site on different pages and not just my home page. By having the web page different than the article I submit it gives the visitor something new to read that does not just duplicate the article.

I did not really do this until recently, but having read over and over, Allan speak about duplicate content has gotten me thinking about the importance of keeping my site and my blog fresh.

Fresh even from my own articles and not just what other people are writing.

I believe it was the founder of USA Today Al Neuharth who said "never hesitate to steal a good idea."
