Hi All

I have been reading conflicting advice on submitting your website to search engines.

Some people highly recommend it and other people say it's just a waste of time.

Can some of you give me your advice on this. If you do suggest submitting to search engines can you please advise how to go about this, is there an easy way?

If you say it's a waste of time, should I continue getting links for my site or writing articles?

Genuine advice is appreciated. Thanks.

That's the last thing you need. Even I've got some opinions on that.

Seriously, get a good source before you start confusing yourself.

Google for "Planet Ocean" "Winning the Search Engine Wars". (Unfortunately I'm not ranked #1 - not unless something has changed drastically very recently.)

The title sounds awful, but the content more than makes up for it. Monthly updates. Even a recent site makeover - meaning you can find archived articles, now.

Hope this helps,
Charlie.

I have not submitted a new site to any search engine for 5-6 years - it really is a total waste of time.

I haven't submitted new sites to search engines for years, either. The search engines that matter find links to the sites and follow them.

However, Google's recently updated webmaster guidelines actually recommend submitting a site to Google:

I wonder why, when it doesn't seem to be necessary?
