I was told that banner ads is one way to make money.
But is it really effective?

Thank you

Not really. People have a sort of banner blindness. They tend to look away and avoid banners. Using in-context text links are much more effective. Wink

It depends on the banner ads you have Smile If it is eyecatching and relevant to a users need, it would get clicked. You need to place that banner ad where your target market is. If you place it on a different niche, say sports, and your banner is about religion and stuff, it won't serve its purpose well Smile

Personally I strongly dislike banners and don't use them. If I don't like something like banners then I bet most of my visitors won't like them either.

This reminds me of the ever-echoing words of the one and only [insert drum roll] Paul Myers...

I like a couple of banners on a page to add color and excitment. Plus I know from my own personal experience that I get sign ups to one program in particular from a banner. They should enhance, not detract, from your web page.

A few banners per page could work very well, but not too many on one page.

Why are there 100's of millions of banner displayed each day?

Because they don't work?

But whom do they work for?

For the affiliate because they get clicked? Or for the merchant because they build a brand?

Because they work almost as well as promoting a sig file via rhetorical questions, don't you think?

Come on. Earn the space.

Just a thought,

P.S. Good point about the branding, Larry.

You can only know if it will work
for you if you try it.

Test! Test!! Test!!!

Personal opinions won't get you

I've failed with it and I've seen
someone generate 50,000 uniques
from them

I too agree that we should not place too many banners on a single page.

Personally, I prefer text links to banners.

The effect and importance of banner ads shouldn't be underestimated, placing banners which fit the audience however is very important to reach the desired effect.

Think for yourself, if they wouldn't be effective why would there still be that many around, it's much like the pop-under, nobody would ever click on them because they where to annoying, still people made and still do make a small fortune because of them.

To make money with them you will have to make sure that there is a certain part of secrecy, desire, and urgency included and a call to action will certainly improve your CTR.

As long as i can get visitors to my sites for less than $0.30 per visitor through the use of banners it proofs itself to be a valuable asset to a marketing campaign.

personally it's a matter of testing. If peopel are "banner blind" then put them in the line of sight with some convincing back up text to promote it. don't sit a banner on the side then moan because no one is clicking through.

i have to say though, i've checked my google ads stats, and you know how many people have clicked thourgh? None, not one click and they've been on my site for months.

at the end of the day, it seems that text links are the best way to get someone to clcik through.
