The Google AdSense has become a strong money making program for many publishers, but do you know that you could loose AdSense account if someone else closes your account? You are probably wondering how someone else can close your account? It is very easy and not mentioned by Google. If you want to know how that could affect you, read my story below and you will learn everything how to close someone's account or how your account could be closed without any possibility to re-apply to the AdSense program.

Some months ago, I had a website and I was a publisher of the AdSense program. I used the AdSense successfully for more than one year. I received some checks. Before my account was closed, I noticed some unusual click-through rates and the amount of money generated was a little higher than usual. That drew my attention, but I did not understand why. Without any warning about a potential disabling of my account, I received some weeks later an email mentioning the following message .

"It has come to our attention that invalid clicks have been generated on
the Google ads on your site(s). We have therefore disabled your Google
AdSense account. Please understand that this step was taken in an
effort to protect the interest of the AdWords advertisers."

[..]

"Publishers disabled for invalid click activity are not allowed further
participation in AdSense and do not receive any further payment."

Naturally, I was NOT the author of the fraudulent clicks and I did not want to destroy my business. I was aware that if I would generate fraudulent clicks, I could loose my account, but I did not expect that someone could do it in my back.

. After receiving this message, I decided to contact the support team and I explained my situation. The support told me that I could appeal of the decision if I was not the author the invalid clicks. So, I wrote a long detailed letter explaining that I was not the author of the invalid clicks and I could not do anything. Google kept its decision and my account has been closed forever. Google AdSense does not have any phone number where you can speak to a true person.

Now here are the key points from my experience to determine if your account could be disabled by Google. You need to have a website with Google AdSense ads on your pages.

-Your statistics show a click-through rate around 30% instead of probably 1-2% (or just something not usual rate).
-Have this for 2 to 4 weeks.

For example, if you determine that a website has 1,000 pages viewed per day, that means you need 300 clicks to make a click-through rate of 30%. You can even generate them from a single page. In Internet Explorer, your hold the shift key to open a link in a new window (that will save you time). So, you do not loose your page with the ads. Just in couple of minutes, you can generate hundreds of clicks. Even a child can do it if you have no time.

I cannot believe that after 10 years of Internet, it is so easy to fraud! Naturally Google puts an end to this, but many webmasters loose their ad's revenues. Sadly, that creates more damages for the honest people, but I guess that is part of the business.

Because Google can monitor the IP address where the clicks come from, clicking on the ads will increase the click-though rate and it tells Google that the ads are mainly clicked by one person from one location. What is dangerous in that is the fact that Google cannot know if it is you or someone else clicking the ads. So, Google thinks that you are trying to make more money illegally and this is considered as fraud. Whatever it is you or someone else, the result is the same and Google disable the publisher account to protect its advertiser.

Now you know how weak a wonderful money program can be. It made some people rich, but some others lost their business or website revenues. You can always turn to other ad programs like AdBright (http://www.adbrite.com/). They even have a phone number! So they must care about the customer or people that help them to make money. Personally, I prefer to stay far from that for the moment and I prefer trying to sell online.

I am aware that this message can be a threat for some people or a malicious technique to hurt your competitors. I hesitated to make this fact public, but Google did not tell me the truth about the danger I risked with their advertising program. I lost my website revenues, which were my main revenues, and I lost my time. I believe that people have the right to know the truth that Google does not mention. Sometimes, it is better to know the truth sooner than later. I would not have opened an AdSense account if would have known this before.

Laurent,
You may have some valid points but with the minimum login of login and email I wonder what your motives are. If you really want some feedback, you need to look serious. A bit more personal info would make you more credible.

I've seen this post on other forums today.
What's the purpose? To make people decide
to stop using Adsense?

Sorry, if your account was closed, but I
don't think they would close it just like
that.

Using Google Adsense on your sites is not
a right, it's an opportunity. If you do
everything they ask then normally they
will not close your account.

I know a person who had his account closed
because somebody else clicked numerous
times on the ads on his website. That
person could show Google the stats and it
was clear that the clicks came from the
same IP-address.

So, they gave him permission to keep using
Adsense.

Now, this person was lucky, because he had
tracked everything.

Click fraud often happens when you post the
URL to your Adsense websites on forums. Now,
it is not wrong to ask for advice, but you
need to make sure you can trust the person
that checks your website.

If you DO ask for a website review, give the
URL via PM to 1 person.

And always keep stats, you never know if
there are people with bad intentions...

Hi.

Thank you for the advices and sorry for the delay. Here are more specifications.

I had a normal website and I did not post it on the forums. I just knew that one day that clicks showed about 30% CTR. This lasted for 2 or 3 weeks, but the revenues were still reasonable, but higher. I knew that revenues were variable depending on the ads. First, I thought that ads were more targeted.

I believe I was stolen by Google because I did the right things. Google let me know that invalid clicks were disabled when I wrote to the support about some clicks that generated no money and that is the answer Google told me. Naturally, I thought that I was protected against this kind of activity from others because Google gave me that answer. At least, I took the time to write to Google about some suspicious activity.

Google did not warn me and let me a chance to make some corrections. Without even with a warning, what can you do? These clicks could have come from almost anywhere on the planet. That is the problem, you cannot control what others are doing on your website. I know you can block traffic for specific IPs or region. I had an english website and many visitors from the USA. Will I block the USA? My AdSense account did not show the IPs of the clicks, so it is impossible for me to track people and this is not my job. Google told me they had security protocole to prevent fraud.

I hope this is clearer why I complain. I was an honest webmaster. I have to admit that I was really new to this kind of revenues, but to me you don't really need a specific experience to place ads on your site without having to deal with fraud. I was aware about fraud, but I thought that Google would check if my login IP would be the same than the ads clicks. I never clicked on my ads. When I saw an interest ads, I did not even click it but I typed the URL in another browser to make sure that I would not be perceived as someone trying to increase his revenues.

You understand why I buycott AdSense. Obsviously I cannot prevent others from using the AdSense, but I warn people about a weakness I would have liked to know before I used it. I read forums and I noticed that many other webmasters had the same problem. Today, I am wondering what others are doing and what are the best things to do to avoid this situation. I try to stay far from the ads because I don't know if other companies might have the same problems, but I am still interested in using ads to increase my revenues.

The same thing has just happened to me. My adsense account closed with a reason of "invalid clicks".

I certainly didn't notice any significant extra traffic, and my weblogs don't show any significant activity.
So yes, we are at the mercy of google who giveth, but just as easily and quickly can take away.

It would be helpful if they could advise which ads were clicked on excessively though I obviously never clicked my own ads either.

However...
I did have one site (or one page) that was on a traffic exchange and which I never really paid much attention to - but google does not allow ads to appear on traffic exchanges.

Also, I had another site that had about 40 pages but with headings only - the content was being created as time allowed - and google does not like or allow incomplete pages.

So although they closed my account for invalid clicks, I believe it was closed for the "potential to create invalid clicks", rather than actual fraudulent clicks.

But it did make me think how some people do earn so much from adsense. Imagine if I didn't like your site so I just started clicking your ads excessively? Would that result in the closure of your account? I don't think so. They would be able to tell that a certain number of clicks were coming from the same IP addresses and then simply disregard those when calculating the commissions.

So, in my case, I think they closed it with a reason - but it is a shame they did not give me the opportunity of say 3 days to get the errors fixed which were not intentional errors on my part.

You should've said something right away, like "please check my site to ensure all adsense clicks are genuine" or something like that

Hi,

Google is God!

With that said. I will tell you I also lost my Adsense Account due to someone attacking my Site with some kind of Bot. Beware, because it does happen. I tried to stop it and I even changed to Yahoo Publisher Java Script because I would not miss Yahoo as much as Adsense, but none the less my Account was Closed anyway.

I was on a 3 day trip and when I got back I noticed my account had $6,500 or more in it and I usually make only $4,500 a month. So, I did notice and I did act, but it was to late. About 4 days later I tried to login and the account had been disabled.

I DID NOTHING WRONG!
