After atleast 3 weeks of constant tweaking Ive finally settled on a design, and have added most of my content. Tell me what you think please!

http://www.cheap-golf-guide.com

(note, that I plan on basing this site more around adsense as opposed to affiliates. That is why my site doesnt bombard users with affiliate links. Adsense has already been very kind to me and this site.)

Thanks. Smile

StrayPixel,

I have no sources right now but studies have shown that it is better (more profitable) to have adsense on the right side of your page. You should certainly consider this.

... but having them on the left inserted in the navigation it looks more like recommended links than like ads (although the ads by google is shown).

Straypixel,
although I don't know anything about Golf, its a nice and userfriendly site.
keep us posted on the results with adsense on the left ( no figures just a better or worse than right side )

PS: the ads onthe vacation page only show discount vacation packages. Maybe you could tweak your wording a little so that you get golf related vacation packages. More on topic.

One more:

on your homepage the text under your links to the different pages doesn't render correctly (netscape 7.01) .
The first letters of the descriptions are on the same line as the Link text.

It looks OK in Internet Explorer

Ive posted adsense on the left because it just integrates better with my site. I didnt know about them performing better on the right, i'll have to consider that. Also, I'll download a copy of mozilla to check it out in something other than IE.

Thanks for the comments so far guys.

StrayPixel,

Instead of this:

"<a href="http://www.cheap-golf-guide.com/newsletter.html">
Free Newsletter </a>

     </b>Would you like a ..."

try this:

"<a href="http://www.cheap-golf-guide.com/newsletter.html">
Free Newsletter </a><br>
</b>Would you like a ..."

same results, less code, better rendering across browsers, monitor resolutions, etc. too.

For "Random Golf Tip of the Week:" use paragraphs or <br><br> to make it easier to read. I think left aligned text is better for this also, easier to read.

Very nice site design.

Thanks. I used frontpage entirely so that would explain the errors...

Wow...it does look different in netscape.

Im not a big fan of frontpage, but it is extrememly easy to use.

and it (frontpage) often pollutes your code. There are many threads on the pros and cons of WYSIWYG editors. Frontpage and Dreamweaver are the most common.

Yeah, but I dont have time to spend hours upon hours of writing actual html. That, and im pretty rusty. I'm going to try to cleanup the code.

Nice looking site!

You might like to download a copy of Opera browser. There's a free version.

As I understand it (correct me if I'm wrong anyone), Opera is very strict. If you can make your pages look OK in Opera they should look OK in just about any browser.

On your Discounted Travel page, you give a whole lot of helpful details, which is good, but you end with a little jarring note. The actual link to Golf Card doesn't follow directly in the white section. It's off to the left in the gray section. So you've added a distraction at the most critical moment of all - just when you're trying to get your reader to click on the link.

Although you have a call to action at the top of the page, there's no call to action in the most important place - just after they've read the page.

You could say something like this...

"Check it out here."
"Find out more here."
"Get your Golf Card here."

The heading, "Play more golf and pay less"

is followed by exactly the same words:

"Play more golf and pay less"

Also, I'm not sure about the words "And now, the company line:".
To me, that screams, "Watch out, folks, be on alert. Here comes an advertisement!"

I'd delete it or better still replace it with something like, "Here's a wonderful service I highly recommend..." Enthusiasm sells.

Thanks guys. Im actually starting from the ground up building a site that is compatible with netscape. Its a tough task, but atleast I have the content already so it is essentially cut and paste.

And actually, I'm much happier with the new design. It feels "cleaner" and actually works in netscape. Wink

Ill post it for review when I'm done.

Whew. After about 4 hours of straight work Ive uploaded the new site which is now netscape friendly.

Now I can GET OUT OF MY HOUSE! (I know I wont. Ill just sit here for hours trying to figure out ways to increase my traffic.) All of you do it to. You're just in denial. Wink
