When you've encouraged lots of people to link to your site and have high PageRanks, you can consider selling a few text links on your site.
Many sites want to buy text links on other sites for a fixed fee per month. Do a search in Google for "text link ads" for details.
Are any of you buying or selling text links? _________________ Allan Gardyne

This is the first I've heard of it, but it sure sounds interesting. Is there a link you can offer that goes into details and examples?

I don't "sell page rank", but I do sell links. We have a very popular site that gets hundreds of thousands of visitors per month, and if you want to get a link from our home page, it will cost you. I do this for a few select pages because it is too much work to manage otherwise.
Pure market driven economics. If a link has perceived value, then you can charge for it. I don't care if the buyer thinks it will help his PR, or just wants the link. I see this as just another way to monetize my site. _________________ Brad Waller | VP, Business and Affiliate Development

I am going to do this as soon as I can increase the value of the pages my links are on.
I want to build up the PR of my links page and my traffic.
Never really considered adding link space for sale on my home page.

But isnt buying or selling links and all this are against the search engines?
I mean what if search engines come to know that this "site" is buying links and is not getting the links as "recommendation"?
Thanks

Sites use different techniques. Some blatantly try to "sell PageRank". They announce that they have sites with a high PageRank and want to sell text links on them. Doing so is asking for trouble with Google.
For more research on that, do searches on Google for SearchKing, pagerank, Bob Massa and PR Ad Network, for example:
"Google wins over SearchKing in PageRank case" http://www.pandia.com/sw-2003/21-searchking.html
However, other sites sell advertising on their sites - banners or text links. That's a perfectly normal, legitimate business activity which has been happening on the Internet for many years. Fortunately for people buying the text links on high PageRank pages, there can be an added benefit of a boost to PageRank for the person buying the text link - as well as traffic from people who click on the links.
Likewise, sites which sell text links on their main page are delivering PageRank to external sites - PageRank which would normally have been delivered to their own internal pages.
I recently received an offer from someone who wanted to buy a text link on one of my sites and I rejected the offer because I wanted the PageRank to go to my internal pages, not to external sites. That's just my opinion and I might change it any day. Perhaps I made a silly mistake turning down guaranteed income. _________________ Allan Gardyne

Our website offer that services. I have been hearing that some search engines consider this a SPAM or a violation of their policy.
It can not be a violation of their policy, it is a threat to major search engines, because they will be losing business.
In my perspectives, I think no search engine will ever ban any site if found selling text link ads, because technology is changing so rapidly that the change will bring many more changes and then text links ad will no longer be a threat.
Text Link Ads are everywhere an example can be found at the following website they have been doing text link ads for many years and I have contacted them to learn and ask questions and the thing is Google is aware of their site that they are selling Text Links Ads but but they are still around. http://www.tarktech.com/advertise.htm
I thought this might help you guys.
Cheers

One of the things I've heard (again can't be sure how true it is) is that Google is not banning sites, or penalizing them, for selling text link ads, but they are stopping those sites from passing PR.
If you do text link ads for visitor promotion (like banner ads used to), fine, if you are doing them to get PR, don't count on any long term benefit.

One post stated that Google won't ban but won't pass the PR of some sites. Do you think it's possible for Google to check each site offering textlinks with high PRs and implement the technique?
I don't think so. Any thoughts? _________________

Everyone knows AOL yet they have a PR of 1/10 compare to yahoo or cnn, msn or google.
I do not think you have to have a PR of 1-10/10 to be successful. Sometimes. It is just a way these search engines make money. there are many websites that offer text links and are still around and still have a rank as well. |

The site you guys are talking about does offer text links advertising, and the admin or modirator stated that they have no PR. Well i just just now with google PR and it states 2/10.
Now this shows that Google is not only let it go by and penalise any sites that offer Text Link Advertising but I think it is getting all over the place and it is getting very competitive. You can see the text links ads being offer on http://www.tarktech.com/advertise.htm and they have a PR of 2/10 http://www.tarktech.com
Now one thing for the site not having any PR is because I have spoken the admin of the site, he said the site is about two months old not even more than that. But the company has been in business since 1996. Now what surprises me is that two months and a PR of 2/10? that is pretty impressive.
I really don't know if any search engines will banning any sites that offer Text Links Ads or not. One says they will be banned, the others say no they won't be and I feel like I a the peace maker between these two. lol....
Anyways, just had a thoght and here it is.....and I leave with this quote.
