I have heard the phrase "Content is King" a thousand times. So many seem to be claiming that you should focus on content, content, content. (For example), for those who are familiar with SBI, the Action Guide places great emphasis on content and less on links.
My feeling is that this emphasis becomes a problem when it is done at the expense of a good linking campaign/strategy. Many build a website of over 80 pages and have no good links pointing to them. Wouldn't it have been better to stop at (let's say) 40 pages and begin placing emphasis on links, links, links?
From now on my emphasis will be on finding link partners. For a while, I'm done with content. For those of you who have 50 or so pages, I (humbly) believe that you should join me and spend a month or so focusing on links and links alone. _________________ Ten Real World Sample Sites |

I never neglect a good linking campaign as well, but "Content is King". The reason this phrase is so widely used is that if you DO have a site with quality content, not just thrown together after Sunday brunch, then your content becomes king. Website owners will see and find you content and places ...links... on their site going to yours.
That is why "Content is King". You won't have to worry about building incoming links, or at least as much, when you have quality content on your site. Have good content and publish it to article sites, who in turn will be picked up by other webmaster and publish it on there sites and so on and so forth.
The Internet was built on the idea of sharing ideas and placing 'hyperlinks' to other sources of information, 'other sources of information' being your articles. Content is King for that very reason and will always stay that way.
You can't beat the quality of a one-way link on another informational site, rather than a reciprocal link or any kind of paid directory link. _________________ Free Software builds pages of content over time! - Claim it here

Good point. I guess one has to be careful about not adding too many links at once.
Voisi, well said, but at times it is necessary to speed up things instead of waiting for webmasters to link to your site.
(I must add however, that my sites have been linked to when I never even requested a link, and nothing beats such a link.) _________________ Ten Real World Sample Sites |

Geez, how many links are you going for? 100,000? Why not spend an hour a day on that and the rest of your time on other stuff? _________________ Have you seen this bonus offer? |

Flyer,
I have more than one site.
Seriously: 100, 000 links divided by 30 days = 3333.33 links per day. Be real! I'm talking about sending emails to 15 to 20 webmasters per day here.
There's a lot involved in finding the sites first of all, deciding whether they are suitable, sending emails to webmasters, following up, building pages and so on. _________________ Ten Real World Sample Sites |

Exchanging links is good but adding content to your site is even better.
What you could do is add content and improve parts of your site for 5 days of the week, exchange links with others for 1 day of the week and then have the last day off.
Doing one months of finding link partners without doing anything else will get your alot of links pointing to your site, but you will quickly get bored of what you are doing.
If you split up your week doing different things each day, then you will enjoy it alot more. _________________ Affiliate Programs Directory - Over 2,000 Programs

I like to spend the first part of the day (when, for some reason, I'm most creative) building content, doing design stuff, and responding to e-mails. Then, the last hour or so e-mailing link requests. I think focusing on getting links is very important, but should be secondary to content. Hey Deb:
Business has been picking up actually. Big help when I changed all the php pages over to static pages. I get all my business from the free listings in the search engines. I do use link exchanges, however recently I add them to my nav instead of to a links page. This makes it look less like a recip link and obviously makes the site relative to what page the nav is on. _________________ Jack Mitchell

John:
Do you use PPC at all. I have often wondered if free traffic is not the only thing that the big super affiliates rely on _________________ Jack Mitchell
