Actually, I think most people are against Adware and are interested more in how to remove it, not to have it installed on other people's PCs.

Dave M,
So does your toolbar overwrite other affiliates' links? Does your toolbar cookie address bar write-ins and bookmark traffic? When someone uninstalls your toolbar, is all the Adware really removed from their machine?

Maybe you should post it at ABestWeb. They will give you a warm response.

I know most people are against adware, however the software they are getting is free.

I will check out abestweb, thanks for the suggestion.

I believe it is removed from the machine when it is uninstalled. I will have to get back to you about the other questions.

I think the abestweb thing was a joke mate.
They'll rip you to shreads!

Thanks for the warning. It's tough to sense sarcasm on a discussion board.

Adware is OK if done well. If the surfer is getting something of value for free (like a software he actually wants) and understands that it's free to him under the condition that ads are displayed... there's nothing wrong with that.

The problem is when deception comes into play. If the surfer doesn't know he'll be getting ads, or worse when the surfer doesn't even want the so-called free software and it's a forced install, that's reason for complaints.

"Adware" is kind of an umbrella term that can be either good or bad.

I heard they are or did make this illegal. I am a student and I was out of my pc for a week due to malicous adware being installed on my computer displaying so many pop-ups my pc was usless. I couldn't get it all of now I know to type regedit and run and delete the registry keys and try different scumware remover. you must be a really poor internet marketer to resort to damaging peoples property for a couple of bucks. I will be the first to send the authorities your post if it is illegal.

These are from places like Neilson Net Ratings but these data recorders are easily uninstalled and explained thoroughly. You are talking about a trojan horse really.

While I don't agree with spyware, and don't want to get into technicalities of different country's laws, there is nothing illegal about discussing it; it's called free speech, at least here in the US.

I just read that it was illegal to install third party software or making it illegal. I don't care. Promoting a trojan horse ticks me off. Why dont you promote prostitution for a commision and have a billboard on the highway since you have freedom of speech.

Don't get me wrong, I don't like spyware as much as the next guy.

All I was doing was making a point that discussion is not always a bad thing, regardless of the topic, be it SEO, spyware, content management, etc...... Wink

Well I think that the topic would be how to get rid of it. I am sure nobody would like a keystroking application on their computer that could record everything they type and send it to someone or delete files.

Thats what happens when you use one of the various peer-to-peer networks to illegally download music, movies, games, etc.........
