I'm confused..
Is PR directly related to backlinks? And also, should the backlinks all be of related topics or keywords (ie. anchor text included).
I'm wondering if simple link exchange will be penalized and my PR will go down as a result...
I'm not as concerned about getting traffic as a result of these links from pages that link to me, but rather, better ranking in the SERPS for my KW's.
Am I on the right track? _________________ Discount Wedding Accessories

- PR is gauged by the number of QUALITYbacklinks your site has - from authority and high PR sites relevant to your niche.
I'm wondering if simple link exchange will be penalized and my PR will go down as a result...
- If you exchange link with bad neighborhood sites - porn related, link farms, banned sites, etc., it will deifinitely take a toll on your site.
I'm not as concerned about getting traffic as a result of these links from pages that link to me, but rather, better ranking in the SERPS for my KW's.
- Then you are on the right track if that is the case. I personally wouldn't be that concern with PR. It's the SERP that would really matter. Organic traffic from search engines are what we all crave for as they are the ones that usually convert _________________ PR4 Link Directory

Excellent. thanks for the advice.. Now just one more thing:
In regards to forum backlinks - I've noticed even just posting here I've received some links. If these links are with anchor text that is relevant kw for my page; will this help me? Or does the forum have to be relevant to the niche.. In other words, is it just the anchor text that is looked at or the totality of the site/forum?
Thanks again!

Forum sigs are picked up by SE bots (including google) as anchor texts and thus have value in SERP rankings. Most forum sigs are "nofollow" - which means the forum does not vouch for the link and therefore no PR is transferred.
In the eyes of the SE bots or spiders, they came across a link with no follow, they recognize that link as a "backlink" but the "nofollow" attribute sends signal to the bots that the link is not vouched for by the forum itself. Meaning no PR should be transferred. _________________ PR4 Link Directory

Yes forum sigs are definately picked up and do count as incoming links... and even with a nofollow tag the SE's will still follow them to see your site so they are definately worth it - However the SE's wont transfer any of the forum page PR to the link.

I think directories are not in the business only to supply us with back links.
some directories are used us search engines and they get a lot of traffic, and being in these kind of directories will also send traffic to your site.
about PR.
now every one knows how to cheat PR and get high PR for worthless keywords. also directories are using the same methods to get high PR.
if a directory has a PR 0 that mean it is listed.
for more directories see my sig file _________________ jossef

Just some pointers to consider when choosing which directories to submit to:
High PR - indication that Google sees some value in the directory.
Well maintained - listed sites are in the proper category
High Traffic - getting traffic could be minimal form directories, but majority are targeted
Kewords ranking high in SERP - Well optimized, shows that the directory is well-marketed and SEO'ed.
Which to avoid:
Link farms that pose as directories
Directories that require reciprocal links
Crappy ones with crappy sites listed _________________ PR4 Link Directory

Submitting to directories is a way to get backlinks, just don't be shocked when the link you submit doesn't get added to the directory. I wasted a lot of time submitting to "free" directories that never included my link. I even saw my link disappear off of a few that I paid for inclusion to. Not all directories are bad, I just wouldn't waste my time and effort on one's that didn't have a good PR or Alexa rank. _________________ Partner with America's Best! |
