I dont think commenting to blogs are that useful to your site anymore as most bloggers use the rel="nofollow" tag.

commenting on blogs may not be useful anymore for SEs, but i've got lot of people coming to my site through my comments on other blogs.
Was reading through another post on commenting on blogs; spamming other blogs thru comments should be generally avoided...

Leaving relevant comments on popular blogs is a great way to drive traffic. It only takes 10-15 comments a day and from there traffic will come quickly. The key is to leave relevant comments, not span on other blogs.
