I've seen Cafe Press discussed on a number of message boards and the general concensus seems to be their prices are too high to generate a reasonably good number of sales.

Thanks. In any case, it's neat that I can give gifts to friends or contacts in the industry, with the name of the site on it! (without having to buy a minimum of 100 pieces, etc.)

Actually, if you look at the large companies who are using CafePress, you can see that if you expect to do some serious volume, you can probably negotiate costs (and prices) with them.
If you put the right designs, or limited editions of your artwork, and promote it to your audience, you will get sales.
One of the good things about CafePress is that you can test designs for yourself, before you go out and pay for a full print run of your t-shirts, mugs, etc.
And when I need just one or each, for speaking engagements, I can place a quick order, and get it in days.
I think it's a good enough system that I devoted an entire chapter to it, and how to use it, in my book about 10 business to start online for free

i went to a conference put on by CafePress, and asked around to see who made the most cash from their store. I found a guy selling humorous bumper stickers was making about $500/month. It seems they deal mostly with hobbyists, unless i suppose you're a company that can negotiate a good deal with them. _________________ The most profitable art affiliate community, is at ReferHub
