Hello Everyone,
I am a website owner with an affiliate program and I figured this would be the best place to ask this question. What do affiliates look for when they choose a product to promote? I have a good product with a high conversion rate, and good commission returns, but have had a hard time finding affiliates to promote my product. How would you suggest that I go about gaining more affiliates.

The No.1 thing I look for is an excellent product. I feel more comfortable if I already know the vendor and trust him/her.
If I don't, I look for product endorsements from people I think I can trust. I like to see testimonials on the site with people's photos and websites. _________________ Allan Gardyne

I have to agree. I as an affiliate want a product I can have 100% trust in, that way my enthusiasm for the product will shine through. _________________ http://www.headphonedeals.org Pay full price? Never!

I usually look for a product in a specific niche that is somewhat unique, priced competitively, offers good commissions, and has good backend support such as marketing materials. If it is one I really want to promote I will buy it and then write personal endorsements to pre-sell it on a web page or blog post. _________________ Jeff Schuman

I would say the marketing system that's used promote the product, the usefulness of the product and the commision plan.
For me it is most important to know how the company has devised the system to market the particular product or service. You can have the best product in the world and never make a sale because you are using outdated or strategies that just plain don't work anymore. I would say the must haves are strong advertising techniques that are responsive, lead capturing system(opt-in squeeze page), a follow up autoresponder that keeps contact with the opt-ins, multiple income streams and the system that is being used must be easily duplicatable. _________________ **No Downline Growth?**

Even if your product is excellent, you still want your affiliate program to be the best and to stand out because there are so many programs offered out there that affiliates can be very picky when choosing a product to promote.
Commission is very important but commissions depend on the traditional profit margins of an industry. For example in the computer hardware industry a 5% would be a good commission percentage. However, when it comes to Information products they tend to have very high profit margins like 40-50% so, you need to compare your commission to what is acceptable in your industry.
There’s are 2 additional factors that can effect the commission percentage:
1. The conversion rate of the product – if your products converts well into sales you can lower the commission percentage.
2. The refund rate – if your product is great and the refund rate is low, you can lower the commission percentage.
Cookie duration is also an important factor.
I tend to avoid programs with a short duration cookie because many people do not buy the first time they visit a web site.
In my opinion a vendor who really wants to work fairly with his affiliates will offer a lifetime cookie.
Here are a few tips you might want to implement in your affiliate program to make it stand out:
1. Consider offering performance incentives - the more units your affiliate sell, the higher the commission percentage.
2. Don’t neglect your affiliate administration side – You need to be responsive to your affiliates, pay them in time and make sure they are able to check click-throughs and sales. Also provide proven advertising materials – these are invaluable.
3. Consider 2-Tier affiliate programs – your affiliates will be able to set up their own "sales force" and receive commissions on all the sales they make and your product will receive higher exposure. _________________ I use the FREE Ever Profits toolbar.
