I have had very good success using a basic affiliate program running in house with a basic paypal script. It has kept me and my affiliates very happy.

Based on this I have just added an affiliate program to my main site using idevaffilite premium package. My main business is much more mainstream being Travel and we are currently advertising in National Press. My question is would I be better off signing up with someone like Commission Junction or am I better off managing my own program.

I have never liked paying middlemen hence my own programs, but am I likely to get vastly more affiliates by signing up to CJ or similar

If you look at CJ you'll see they take some pretty healthy chunks of cash to administer.

What you are buying is access to the publishers. Is it worth it? Maybe.

Take a look at Shareasale. Sign up yourself. Then look at your competition. How well are they performing?

If not keep it in house. I use several affliates that use idevaffiliate. I actually like it.

Join other networks as an affiliate and find out who is doing well. Then go from there.

i prefer signing up on CJ. You can be profitable in joining a network as long as you knew how to promote your website and better if you focus on one niche. As a merchant it would be a lot better if you really sign-up to existing and popular affiliate program.

I sign up w/ commission monster and clix galore and fortunately Ia m happy to what I'm earning. I'm also engage on travel but more on the hotel side. These affiliates really help you create more traffic on your site as well.
