Arelis is by far the best link exchange software. If google thinks Arelis link pages are spam then why does it work so great for all of my sites?

I managed to get 2 pr 7 pages and both these pages use Arelis.

Now SE hate links manager, notice all the banned links manager users in google?

This is getting a bit hot isn't it? What about Sumantra Roy's LinkPopularity software ? Has anyone tried that? He specifically makes it hard to use as pure Spam. I do not think it is spam any more than writing to a webmaster and asking about linking is. Most web masters accept that as being legitimate business. In LinkPop you have an option of emailing them yourself and are encouraged to change the email templates to suit yourself.

I am not sure about LinkPopularuty yet as I haven't had it long enough. There is 120 days risk free return policy on it. I bought it because of the person really I see his name every time I use Wordtracker so he became asociated with a reliable brand-and because of the trial period.

If anyone has any views on using it please share them. This is the url and yes it is an affiliate url.

Just a word of caution on using Arelis:

I have been using Arelis in december '04 for one week. I sent 250 targeted emails. Then I received an email from my ISP, followed by a letter from them in which I was told my computer is sending large amounts of spam and that people receiving the spam were complaining. If this continued I would lose my ADSL-connection I was told. I then asked them what the spam was about and my ISP sent me a copy of an Arelis email I sent 10 days earlier. For this particular email both Arelis and I couldn't find a name so I addressed it with 'Dear Webmaster at ..'

I now stopped using Arelis because only 2% of the emails got me a link. If I can only sent emails to webmasters I know the name of, that percentage will probably drop to 0.5 - 1.0 % making it too labour intensive for me.

I have to agree. Since I wrote that earlier message I have stopped using any of them. I haven't been accused of Spam it was just that I never had much success with either of them. Its quicker to write an article and syndicate it - you can get some good links if the article is good.

Hi Liz,

Your alternative in getting links sounds interesting to me! I still have no good solution in getting them. Could you explain me a bit how your method with 'syndicating articles' works?

Thanks on beforehand,

After taking a big traffic hit since mid-December (back down to August numbers!!! Shocked ), I realized I need to split my time for the next several weeks 50-50 between building more content and building link popularity. (Not 20/80, like the "Content is King" philosophy.)

====
SIDEBAR
I believe too that "Content is (in my case Wink ) Queen". Without great content, quality links are hard to come by. But I've neglected building link popularity to the point that I have some major catching up to do now!
====

I was soooo close to buying Arelis, because one very trusty forum member so highly recommends it. But after reading this thread, I have doubts.

If these types of programs just cause us to get penalized in the SE's, what's the point?

What other way is there to efficiently find/manage links?

Advice?

Thanks,
Debbi Smile

Hi Debbi,

Arelis, doesn't get you penalized in the SE's. Nobody could tell you are using Arelis. You will just be sending normal email requests. It just helps you organize the many requests you sent. It gathers info for you and helps you putting the emails together.

Just make sure you address the emails you send to a real person! Don't address the webmasters anonymously like I did. I got angry letters for spamming from my ISP within 2 weeks.

In my case (I have 3 brandnew low ranking sites) it's not worth the effort. I assessed 1000 sites Arelis dished me up. Sent 250 mails to sites I thought were appropriate. I now have 5 backlinks from those. It was about one full days work for 1 backlink.

So it isn't Arelis fault, it's actually very nice software, but it's still a lot of work and the response rates are quite low.

I will use Arelis again once my sites have a Google pagerank of 4 and/or an Alexa ranking of 300000 or better, just to get myself every now and then another backlink as needed.

Bye for now Content Queen

I use Arelis to find information, links, and track inbounds ... I don't use it's email feature to be honest, although I know it can be handy ... I just feel the current "spam report" mindset is too high to risk it.

Web sites and ezines all need content and its a lot of work for webmasters to keep them up. Writing an article on your topic which they can use is a help. The payment for your work is that they have to include a blurb and a link from you.

Since I began writing articles I have got dozens of links on my 3 web sites and I can write a 500 word article in about half an hour. So time wise it is very economical. There are lots of article mailing lists where you can get them published or use Phantom Writers which will send them to all the article lists, but you have to pay for the service.

Those are the pros- to read about the cons here is a good article on the topic. http://www.thesitewizard.com/archive/syndication.shtml

I first came accross article writng on this forum. Then Jewel told me that her web site had really taken off since she began writing. If you do a search here you will find more on this topic.

Thanks for your explanation Liz. Looks like great practical help. I am certainly going to look into this!
