There's a C|NET article titled Google to buy Primedia ad service today

http://news.com.com/2100-1024_3-5096734.html?tag=nefd_top

The gist is that Google is buying out the Sprinks targeted advertising service owned by Primedia. This will make Google (via Sprinks) the primary (?sole?) ad provider to about.com. Which would make adwords advertising visible through a larger pipe than now. Sprinks (http://sprinks.com/) being basically the same thing as Google's AdWords service.

I'm wondering how it will affect AdSense affiliates (like myself)? That is, would small time sites like mine get lost in the noise of about.com? Maybe leading google to drop AdSense for small time sites?

Surely this is exciting for advertisers using AdWords.

Noise is exactly how I think of about.com ... I will go anywhere first to get answers before I go there. Will our small sites get lost? I don't see it happening from an affiliate or merchant view myself. While about.com may have some good coverage on some topics, they are too broad to go into great depth on all of them. Niche content sites, however, are great for that.

Google has had their premium service for big time publishers for a long time. Adsense was brought out to reach the small publishers, and especially content sites. Personally, I think Adsense is here to stay and that makes me a very happy publisher. Smile

Nice one Debs. About.com may be the internet's biggest promise never to come true.
If I may digress a little: Is there any point in trying to get listed at about.com? I mean, they can't get many visitors these days and the outbound links are cloaked, so they won't help link popularity on Google etc.

I agree. From Google's point of view I guess about.com would be "just" another premium publisher. I think an AdSense/Sprinks merge would be an advantage to us small fishes, since it means more available ads (for publishers) and more advertising channels (for advertisers).
