I had a message on my cell phone from someone from APlus.net. He said he was calling reguarding my newly registered domain name and wanted me to return his call. First who are these people and second ,howdid he get my cell phone number and third what does he want?
Did you register your domain name through Sitesell? If not, it could be almost anybody. FYI, there will be companies out there who will try and steal away your business from any company you register your domain through. They are a legit business, and they will send you notices that your domain renewal is coming up, etc...and to click through to them and reregister, etc..., but you will want to always make sure you do it through SiteSell.
Also, when you register a domain you have to give certain personal information to do it. This is stored in the owner file, for lack of better terminology, linked to your domain.
For instance, if you use the Registry WhoIs Search function, put out by many site on the web, it will include the owners data linked to the domain.
Yes, it's true, the world can see who owns the domain, who you are, where you live, telephone numbers, etc... This freaks some folks out, as they'd rather be incognito when on the web, but I don't worry about it. If anyone wants to find out my personal data, they can start by locating me in the phone book anyway.
I figure you've got to share some data to run a good, clean business anyway.
