Anyone had any experience, good or bad, with IX WebHosting? I'm looking to take out a $4.95/mo Linux plan for my first site, honestly because it provides everything I'm lookin for at around ?2.80/mo and they got a 97% rating on the hosting chart.
Just looking for opinions either way
Cheers

Hi Mark,
I believe I should warn you against most of the Web Hosting Review sites. Ya, it's shockingly true that there are literally hundreds of thousands of Websites (reviews of Web Hosting services- Funny ) built entirely by Affiliates/Partners of Web Hosting companies.
below are some examples:
hosting-review
web-hosting-guru
webhostingratings
hostsearch
(remember, there are WWW. & .COM before and after respectively D
etc etc etc and lots of etc
Carefully follow the links from hosting chart ( I think you're talking about thehostingchart) .... You won't find any affiliate links for the top two - IXwebhosting & Hostexcellence and afterwords, lunarpages, easycgi everything comes with Affiliate Links.. Who knows if IXwebhosting & Hostexcellence are not operated by the same company/group and thehostingchart is also operated by them
As soon as you land on ixwebhosting.com, you'll be asked to read a review regarding their service through another site (truely it is thehostingchart again .. what a relation! )
I believe those review sites most (ya most, but there are exceptions of course) which don't take me to the recommended websites through Affiliate Links
I'm yet to find the review for best (better at least) web hosting services ! whatever sites I visited for reviews, all of them were affiliate sites who I can't afford to regard as genuine reviews. There must be exceptions but it's entirely my personal belief.
Best of luck to you finding a respected & genuine Reviews.
(Don't forget to let us know it you find any.....) _________________ ~ dhooshor ~

Thanks for that dhooshor,
Yeah, I was talking about thehostingchart. I would have gone blindly into a 2 year subscription with IX had it not been for that post. I'm getting a bit paranoid that I'm just too trusting for this whole thing lol.
Looking at 1&1's Home deal now, seems alot better package for pretty much the same price and I found them through comments on this forum so I feel happier about the recommendation source.
Had I actually bothered to look around rather than jumping on the first good review I found, I'd probably have found dozens of companies with better deals & reputations than IX.
cheers,
-Mark

Hi Mark,
I'm glad that my reply was a bit helpful to you.
Actually, it's really sad that an online consumers (applied in newer in most cases) will get easily confused if s/he wants to have trusted & genuine reviews on his/her desired products be it Web Hosting services, Mobile & namely every sort of products available online to purchase. In my earlier days, I was always looking for reviews reviews and nothing but reviews. I simply typed the product name after reviews as Search Strings. then - oh my God! a lots of sites are waiting their to assist me choosing the right products with helpful and genuine advices ... I was glad
Now, the scene has changed. Just now I typed "reviews web hosting" (don't count the inverted commas), and found almost 6 Websites (affiliate) out of 10 on the very 1st page of www.Google.ca search results page. Those affiliates are really superb and in fact in this forum most of the forum members' ultimate goal is to build such sites which Google love to hug on the first couple of search-result pages. But, when we ourselves look for a product, we need to be careful. As an Affiliate we'd love to build such sites, but as a consumer we'll obviously be alert from various review sites because we know the actual story/history behind those kinds of sites . We won't normally get a lots of honest and helpful reviews on select products like Uncle Allan gives (even though with affiliate links, it's his business and he's successful but obviously truthful to his visitors/viewers). I respect and admire him and that's why I try to pass a lots of times reading his reviews and acting a bit in this forum
Ya, I came to know from various sources that 1and1 is a good company but I really don't know anything good or bad about IXwebhosting.
All the best.
P.S. It's not my intension to proof that every review sites (built by Affiliates) are bad. But We need to be careful from a lots of them. _________________ ~ dhooshor ~

IX Webhosting was fine for me for two years. I went through them for my portfolio when I graduated college. The price of their packages is good for the service you get. I dont like their email service though, they use Horde and it was annoying to me. (although it was okay, I mean I had IX for 2 years!) The best thing about IX is the live chat support, I almost NEVER had to wait more than a couple minutes to chat live with a tech support person about any problems or questions I had regarding my site and their service.
Anyways, I can recommend IX. |

TRR84,
I take it you did not go with IX then? Its been well over a month since you posted, who did you end up going with and how are they? As far as the "dozens" of better companies than IX, they were not a bad company, like I said before, I used them for 2 years, and they had a 99.9% uptime garuntee which almost no one offers.
Anyways, what did you end up going with? _________________ HIGHLY recommend DreamHost! for your hosting needs.

Hello:
Quite an interesting discussion here. My only experience with webhosting, coincidentally, is through 1and1 and IX Webhosting.
You've likely already chosen a hosting program, but if not, please allow me to inject a word or two about each of these companies.
1and1 isn't BAD, but they can be exasperating at times. Their webmail program is terrible, and their customer service is mediocre. I use them for a community service website: www.good-neighbour.com. (Moderator: no site promotion here, as it is a religious site with only one link.)
IX Webhosting has been good for my other site, which is an affiliate adventure. I have never experienced downtime, the prices are good, and their website building tool is easy to use. I've actually learned a bit of HTML from it, without even meaning to.
Anyhow, best of luck, _________________ James W. Rooney

Sorry for not following up, totally forgot about this thread!
..Nothing much to follow up really, still on the horns of this particular dillema lol
Leaning toward IX at the moment (I'm going to make a decision before the end of the month). Quick side query - IX serevers are based in the US, does this mean my site would come under US law for things like CAN-SPAM compliance? Or would an AWeber subscription dictate that anyway?
All advice is much appreciated |

Hi!
I tried out IxWebhosting sometime in the early part of this year, basically to test its system. The Hsphere control panel is slightly challenging but could be master in a short time.
I went as far as asking for refund by calling their support line too. The process has been smooth, customer service personnel on the phone was friendly too.
I guess my experience is not representative of everything afterall it's been a while since I last tested them.
I hope this helpful.

Sorry, I again completely forgot about this thread. Given that it's now October you can probably guess that I chose a host!
I went with Hostgator eventually. Support is excellent and the packages are spot on
Cheers,

| IX Webhosting is DOWN constantly. We looked for a reliable hosting company and all these "review" sites (which are owned or are affiliates of IX)said they were the "most reliable". We got the "unlimited pro" for a quarter. From the start evry aspect of this was painful. They deleted our site and asked us to provide a back up after a month of hosting with them. When we put a back up on their server, they took the site down and didn't tell us. They said it was against their policy to have back ups. We put an uptime check from another server to hit the site every thrity minutes. The site was down on average once every week during the quarter and was not put back up untill we called to complain. They have an uptime guarantee so we got a refund. Our site was doing great on the search engines, but when our logs were full of 404 errors from bots it fell off. It took years to get out site ranking well on the search engines and it took a month of hosting with IX to put us out of business. We should have researched it better. Look around at sites NOT owned by IX and you'll find they are one of the worst hosts on the net. DO NOT HOST WITH IX. |
