I believe the "upgrade" breakdown is free if bought in the last 3 months, $27 if bought in Oct-Dec 2005, $67 if Apr-Sep 2005 and $97 prior to a year ago.
I'm not entirely surprised by there being a cost to "upgrade" - I think it's unrealistic to expect upgrades to be free forever. I was a little surprised at the price though - $97 since I bought over a year ago.
I was originally under the impression that the Updates page was going to provide updates indefinitely but looking at the sales page again (an archive.org version from last year), it did just say the 2005 purchasers would get updates through 2005. The current page says through 2006, so I guess we can maybe expect annual updates to the manual.
Personally, I won't be paying the $97 to upgrade from what I've heard so far. I'll wait to see some reviews as to whether the update is worth the cost.
I think my Buzz subscription is going to get cancelled at the end of April as well unless the next couple of episodes show some substantial improvement. The last two have been little more than half hour advertisements - one for James' wife's ebook (which I think is a very worthwhile resource, I just don't think the Buzz is the place to advertise it) and the other for the updated manual.
JM talked about a new site builder on the latest Buzz but didn't even say what it was - just that it was covered in the new version of his manual. I guess you have to buy the manual to get the details.
I could be wrong, but I have a feeling the Buzz is going to get more disconnected from the manual because they aren't going to want to reveal too much of the new information through the Buzz, they want to sell upgrades. I guess time will tell how it all works out.

I've been disappointed with recent Buzzes, not just the last two. There has always been a place for the motivational lifestyle content but I think it has taken over from the useful sitebuilding tips.
There's only so many times you can listen about the Cobra, and one recent show was almost dedicated to previewing the (earlier) bootcamp after it had sold out, I think.
I thought Charles' new site developing would have been a great topic to look at how to develop sites but there's been very little about them.
No I have to tend to disagree with the loyalty part I think it has a lot to do with greed!! Lets face it when you are making that kind of income that he was making and all of sudden a major shake up occurs like "florida". It sets you back for sometime, living high on the hog you do what ever it takes to try to recoup your loses.
Also if I am making 30 or 40k a month do I need to be bother by running a boot camp charging 3500 a head, or would I much rather spend my free time doing something else? As a friend once told me making 50-60 at month does not buy you happiness it simply allows you the free time to try to find things that will make you happy, lets face it there has been a lot of "rich" people that died very lonely and unhappy.
Inclosing I would just say this, why would you even bother pay for it if his "methods" no longer work? Its clear to me what was said here by Colin that what once worked for him no longer works and if what he found did work I think he owes it to his students that still follow his methods to reveal it for free.
I can say this anyone that does buys Colin VEO report it comes with updates for life. Not only did the Veo report put things back in respective there is a ebook that he also sent me an e-book along with the VEO report called the positive mind. I have been a smoker for the past 10 plus years after reading it I was able to quit cold turkey. So not only do I have to thank Colin for getting me back on track in the world of affiliate marketing, he also probably added 10 plus years to my life.
Thanks a lot Colin

I agree with most of the comments already expressed here, James now spends most of the time in the Buzz promoting his other products. In this one, he mentions the site builder - like you said - but never tells us what it is.
Then mentions that he's discovered some new things that he's tested on his sites that work better for rankings... yet won't give us a hint as to what they are. Sheesh, you'd think for that $120 a year Buzz price he'd throw us a bone now and then.
yehp, he certainly crossed the line this time , friends I'm outta the buzz! my guess is he needs to make house payments that his sites took care of before before being banned in google. Poor guy. Charging for updates is just too dang ridiculous IMHO... I can just imagine him calculating how much cash he can collect with the update lame stuff, and I used to be one of those who put my hand in fire for his "method" wich i think is still cool, but come on !! Sorry just had to fire off my opinion

I'll save you some time. Don't bother. Even though he raves about it, it's just another site builder like all the others as if there aren't enough already. It generates horrifically un-clean HTML code. His friend, a Collin (last name?) - not McDougle - is associated with it somehow and he has no web design experience. Check out the source code at Arlene's site mentioned in a recent buzz. Not cool.
To my surprise, James also talks about about "starting" to write quality content. "Starting?" Not cool either. Quality content is what the real money on the net is all about, man. Would about.com be anywhere close to being successful if they hadn't written quality content? Not a chance.

I cancelled my buzz subscription last week after a couple years. I haven't gotten anything meaningful out of it for at least a year, but kept giving it a chance. Mostly bragging and selling. Sure, his bragging may be motivating to some, but not twice a month and ask me to pay to listen to it.
I'm really annoyed that it will cost me $97 for an update, I ranted and raved recently about Perry Marshall doing the same thing after saying updates were free for life, then saying that the 2006 Definitive Guide to AdWords is a different book than the 2004 Definitive Guide to AdWords, even though th original one didn't have 2004 in the title.
That being said, I'm not buying the Martell update. If I miss something, so be it. _________________ Dennis, MDM Sports

This tool screams buyer beware but the affiliate commissions on it are probably darn good
Why would you rent a CMS tool for 30$ a month ($360 a year) when you can buy one and make your money back? Probably for less money. Avoid tools that are server side based. You cannot work if the site is down. Most good CMS tools let you build unlimited sites for one price. Search google to find companies like www.mamboserver.com,www.joomla.org. Livingdot.com gives you a MovableType account with hosting.

Hey Jeremy,
I have been meaning to get in and post about your idea that I am "fear marketing" - That is not the case at all. If my first newsletter came across that way it was never intended to be a "fear marketing" tactic - Only a heads up to unsuspecting webmasters. Since this is a fresh thread thought I would mention that here
I sent that out shortly after speaking face-to-face with Matt Cutts.
BTW, if your hyphenated domain is doing well for you congrats on that!
Also, I have recently been linked to by a .edu site (unsolicited link - saw it in my referring URL stats report) - None of my previous keyword-this-keyword-that.com domains have ever received such a highly regarded link before.
While I hope like heck that all my dash-this-n-that.com sites see a resurection in Google, choosing a domain with no hyphens certainly opens many more doors - Sites without hyphens actually can become "brandable" and you can move on to much greater things.

My SIL has built two sites that educational institutions often reference as resource material or use in their lesson plans. Universities often use portions for supplemental training materials since textbooks are often lacking in real-life information or info from a real consumer's perspective. One of her articles was used as a reference for a college debate team. Another of her articles was partially reprinted by the American Red Cross and is redistrubuted to many government agencies in states across the USA. None of the links were solicited. This is exactly what I mean by quality content that is "evergreen" and not black hat methods from the 90s that won't last through the next algorithm. Depending on the SEs for all your website's traffic is like living on the edge. Unless you like taking risks with your family's finances, don't put all your eggs in one basket. Use common sense even if someone who is touted as a millionaire tells you something that doesn't make complete sense.
that is fear marketing, and it works well,
nothing wrong with it, many marketers use it,
governments use it, and will continue to do so.
To use the word doomed suggests that they will
be gray barred, which they were not, hence fear
marketing. Sites can still get traffic from Yahoo,
and MSN and directories etc.
It also suggests that you better change your sites
over Now. With only a handful of sites I'd be back
to square one if I changed over. Most of my traffic
does not come from Google.
