I have noticed lately that there are more and more posts, some of them disguised as "helpful" where people are putting links to their sites right in the body. This spamming is annoying. What is happening here?

Jim

It certainly is annoying. But the good news is that most people realise this doesn't work, even if a few insist on trying out.

These few disillusioned souls soon end up blowing their credibility. Think about it...

Who in their right mind is going to click a link recommended by someone who insists on breaking the rules just to prove they don't know what they're doing?

My guess is people with a warped sense of humo(u)r and/or hype-loving tyre-kickers. Very few of these will actually spend.

Cheers,
Charlie.

P.S. If fighting the good fight really is your fix, take a look in "about this forum". There's some interesting debate in there, too.

I honestly thought spam was

putting an ad and nothing else on a forum. Am I wrong now? I've been on the net for 7 years, no wait 8, no wait 9 lol.

After all these years.....

Spam for me is when you place your URL contrary to the site instructions.

Your cooperation would be appreciated.

Here are the forum instructions:

Spam is anything that you didn't ask for, or that doesn't comply with the local rules.

For instance, this particular forum. Publishing affiliate URL's or pushing ones own website is against the forum rules when you put those links in the body of your message.

Put them in the signature location, and your all set.

Most of the people who are spamming are "one-hit-posters". They spam and leave. The ones who learn, stick around and offer some contribution are the ones who are better off.

Wally can check that. It isn't hard to see who is posting from the same location with different usernames.
