Defrag,
Sorry, you miss read me. I understand just where your coming from. I'm in full agreement with you on posting.
My comment on don't post something here has nothing to do with "stealing" content. It stems more from the fact that this is a public forum and if you don't want your post "used" by others then don't post it. Send it in a PM or something.
Often I send a PM for a personal talk -- for example I just had a talk on Sunday with somone on this board which lasted over 1.5 hrs and offered some help.
Honestly, I'm too lazy too write that much!
When I refer to post I'm talking about the idea and not the words. There really are not that many new ideas in this whole business.
I also agree with you on helping where possible. We all improve when we share.
My initial comment was more of a pun than anything. Your post of everything written being copyright was just humorous to me - nothing else.
All that being said... I've developed some wonderful relationships with 15-20 members on this board, and not just online but meeting in person and sharing. That I wouldn't trade for anything.
In closing Allan's reputation is top level and I would never remotely consider him ever using content without asking permission, which is only proper.
Now let's move on to helping others!

Glad to see all the handshaking
Gary, like you, I also value the relationships I've developed with many of you on this board. It has been really cool to meet some of you face-to-face at various conferences.

Certainly - rest assured, I have no intentions of scraping other peoples comments for any purpose.
My respect to Allan for providing a good forum for open dialogue - and hope one day, the conference will be in Aus so we can meet him in person!
Happy Easter everyone! _________________ Andrea Thomson

Hi BobShark, Nice bit of detective work there!
For anyone still wondering what this is all about, the website building tool which James is now recommending appears to be a rebadged tool.
So if anyone posted the URL to the web building tool on this forum, they'd be posting an affiliate link, which is against the forum guidelines. _________________ Allan Gardyne

Basically... The tool he is promoting belongs to a company.. I know the name of it.. no need to name it here.. based in canada. They have a resale program its very hefty costs over 3000 one time and then you have to pay them monthly costs for every person who joins your site.. and has a site..
James martell is using this in hope of future customers of his book and loyal suscribers that they will pay him. not because he will use in when hes on vacation.. that is garbage talk... thats selling the dream vs the fact that he does all his work before going away on vacation.. the idea behind the website builder is ok but yes.. lets face it..
Someone starting out.. needs to be shown the way to get started without shelling out lots of money.. that price on james rebranded builder which he gets for wholesale and is found all over the place is for 1 site only!!.. seriously.. not to slate the guy but... he has pulled some obvious moves both in what he says and does that do not help people getting online.. and has left a lot of people no longer trusting him including top marketers.. like *&*&(&* ooops i wont mention her here..
OK his ideas in his book give people a foundation but that is it.. 90% of what he says is found online anyway.. just by observing sites that were built long before anyone heard of James..
The fact that people still go to him and buy his book and stay attached to his buzz crap is because they think 1 day that he is going to drop a gem and they will be there to hear it... .. well happy waiting.. hes using all the gems he finds... avoid that builder like the plague.. its overpriced and produces horrible coded sites.. stick with andreas templates or even better. LOL. no offence andrea.. use OPEN source FREE templates or blogs
I agree with what someone said about him doing these seminars and charging for updates.. its a grab for money.. i cant blame him... thats business when the bottom falls out..
Build sites and dont get wrapped up in the whole keyword denisty crap...
as for colins book.. i think its alright from the perspective that at least he honestly tells you to build good sites.. but the book could be wrapped up in 1 line >. Just build good sites.. other than that.. nothing new to be found in it.. overpriced |

Help us understand how you define "Just build good sites"?
Does a good site get traffic?
Make $$$

No worries Ed - I'm not offended. In fact, I agree with your advice to some degree.
Does free = quality? And if it's not a good template / product, how would a newbie know?
Sometimes we pay for a service because we recognize that we're not experts in a particular area. Or, maybe it's more cost effective to buy a quality product rather than spend the time evaluating a free one?
Times they are a changing... the SE's are really looking at the code so be sure you've checked it before they do _________________ Andrea Thomson

I don't think it's even a matter of quality so much as having someone to ask for advice when a question comes up.
I've used Andreas templates on a lot of my sites because I know I can email her and ask a question when I want to change something. She's helped me out many times when I've wanted to change something in the layout.
I've tried some templates from Open Source Web Design (www.oswd.org) that were actually quite nice, but the cost of Andrea's template is worth the time I save in trying to figure things out for myself, when I can email her and get a quick answer from an expert. |
