|
|
hi all,
i've been running a recipes site for the past 6 months; recently i got into a full time job and find it difficult to keep my site updated. the site was a purely static one, used dreamweaver for development.
I'm pondering moving to a CMS but i'm worried about rankings...
thoughts please... _________________ A part-time effort to a full-time income |

yup ranking will take some burnt on this... most often all those cms have different linking structure.
My suggestion is Don't transfer to CMS... unless you can change all those linking issues and stuff like that...
I'd say rather add blog to your site... it can be easily updated and maintained. Just add your feeds to main pages on your site. and give link to your blog and direct visitors to it with links and announcements on your main pages.

Blog only adds value to my site, however i'm of the personal opinion that a CMS would be able to handle lots of pages as my site grows. _________________ A part-time effort to a full-time income |

ok then... here's another simple idea.
. keep all of your pages as they as right now..
. get a CMS template done based on your existing site.
. now build your site with CMS. Add All your new articles, and other stuff, plus give links to your old articles too.
this way you won't be changing any of the exisiting pages and you'll be able to CMS your site.

Thanks, but won't the extension change even if i add those pages to the CMS or is it possible to add my existing pages to the CMS with the extensions intact... _________________ A part-time effort to a full-time income |

No I was saying.. don't touch existing pages at all... but create a CMS based on your current layout and implement on homepage(root folder).
unless you always link back with "http://yoursite.com/index.html" anchor tag. You'll have no problems with extension on your root folder.

Nice idea, but i sure will have a tough time customizing the CMS' looks to my need; most these days are PHP based and when it comes to programmimg, i have greasy hands..... _________________ A part-time effort to a full-time income |
