Hi!
I am totally new to affiliate business. I am working on my first website [URL deleted - Please, use your signature file - Moderator] and have problems with browser compatibility. On Internet Explorer everything look's fine but with Firefox, banners are not in place and some ads are moved. I don't know anything about HTML. Site was made with FrontPage. Any advice how to fix this problem???

1) Don't use frontpage.
Frontpage often adds a lot of junk to the HTML. Same with MS Office.
2) Find a good template (buy one if you have to) and use that. Your more likely to have something that looks good across all browsers.

Hello, BookieMaster.
You will find that there exist incompatibilities between Internet Explorer and the rest of the browsers. The best way to avoid their effect is to try to adhere to standards when coding a page, and even so it is better to not use certain features that are conflictive.
As you say that you know nothing about HTML, this will be difficult for you because you will depend on the program (editor) that you are using to make your pages. I would say that until you learn HTML, the best you can do is to focus on one browser (IE, Firefox, etc.) and forget the others.

Generally, if you target Firefox as your browser to design for, you'll find that you have a higher compatability rate than if you target IE6.
FF adheres to the standards better than IE does. So by designing for FF, you are more standards compliant.
Also, your target niche can have a lot to do with what browsers you need to concentrate on. IE6 is still the #1 browser, but in some niches, you might actually have a higher useage of FF than IE.

Actually, you can design a more browser friendly website by avoiding CSS and using tables.
But, I would still look into CSS, since it will make site updates (theme changes) easier.

For optimization you probably dont care about being browser friendly, you care about being spider friendly. The page file size of a HTML table layout compared to the file size of a CSS layout is about 50%. This increases the density of the body text with the file size of the page and increase ranking for particular keywords. Also the CSS code is cleaner and the spiders crawl better.

CSS is only cleaner if you write it cleaner. And the page size is only less if you use external CSS files. If you use inline CSS, then the page size is larger than what a table will produce.
I prefer CSS over table layouts any day of the week. But they are not the magic bullet to solve all your problems. They have their own set of issues (browser compatibility is a big one).

Not all of them are validated. And many use Tables for their layout.
But they are a great place to get templates. I have used a dozen or so in the past year or two. I usually find one close to what I want, then modify it to make it unique to me.
The downside to using OSWD vs. hiring a layout is uniqueness. You may not get a truly unique layout from OSWD. But the price is good, and they have a great selection. Just do an search and filter down on your criteria.
