I'm asking this from all angles here,

#1 the marketer - You want to promote your site/blog yadda yadda anchor text etc.

#2 the merchant - Hi I'm *insert name here* and I'm the king of......

#Article directory - I'm sorry- we don't like you because you're blatantly marketing so please F-O (we don't take to your kind)

Obviously we have to content with the idiots, nothing is supposed to be easy.....

Reference material or evergreen content is almost always considered quality.

A good article is one that persuades people to take action.

A good article is basically one that you would want to read yourself! A lot of articles are worthless.... to me. That doesn't mean their worthless to everyone else. Though I find the trend for most popular articles are always the same... *** and get rich quick scams. Confused

For me, a good article is the following:

You was searching for something (any topic).

Let say I want to know how to start fishing (I really don't know this subject).

I will read the article because the headline says"How to start fishing", "Fishing for beginners" (or something like that).

When I finish the article, I must have more ideas about jow I will start tofish, and maybe also reference to material and schools.

Of course, if the article is good and the bio well presented, I will click on the link to get more informations about fishing for beginners.

If any of these component are missing, it will seem to me like a sales pitch.

In summary: the reader should like the article, and even bookark it or save it.

A good article should leave the reader satisfied. They should consider the time spent reading it well spent.

dotdash you must hate article directory owners. from your opening post. I am a directory owner and believe a good article is one that provides the reader with information that answers what ever they were seeking and enough for them to either want to read it again or share thier finds from the article with all.

A good article leaves the reader feeling they got what they came for. The title drew them in and the article did it's job. Your reward is a click on your website link in the resource box.

In my opinion as a writer, a great article is one that doesn?t try to sell, is spell-checked and provides useful information.

Too many articles that I see in directories are just thinly disguised ads. Others give you tantalizing information, but never anything concrete, to get you to click on the link, while still others are so full of errors that you have no idea if they provide information or not!
