Commenting on blogs is one legit way to create backlinks for your own site. However don't allow yourself to be called a spammer by commenting too fast on too many blogs. For this reason is there any maximum number of comments or speed that you have to comply?

I wouldn't think so. Maybe on different posts on one blog.

Do links in comments count as back links?

Most blogs have nofollow tags. But an useful comment still has value because of the direct traffic. Also there is always a chance that the author of the blog notice you, like some article and link to it. Commenting is useful, but only if you have what to say.

What does the nofollow tag do and how do you recognize whether a blog has one?

If you have the Search Status installed in your FF browser, you can right click on the q at the bottom before the PR and check or tick the Highlight No Follow Links.

Comments that aren't counted as backlinks and blogs with no follow tags are highlighted.

You get at least the domain views and exposure to your web site even from no follow up blogs, so commenting help you by other means.

You can track your blog comments that are made after yours and so on making follow-up comments. Worth to check; http://co.mments.com

Most blogs have nofollow in their comments. But, I definitely can't say they don't help at all. Yahoo shows those links when you do a linkdomain command.

I believe they help in rankings in Yahoo and Google also doesn't ignore them completely. Smile

I wouldn't worry about how quickly you comment. A lot of blogs use the nofollow tags. As long as you comment only because you have something worthy to say and not just because you want to spam your links, then I would think that would be fine.

Commenting just to promote your link will not look good to Google and also the blog itself.

I wouldn't comment just for links alone. Some blogs still have do follow - mine included, but I'm may change it soon as I get quite a lot of comments and all the outbound links dilute my PR.

When you've just started a blog, the best reason to comment on other blogs is to attract traffic to your site.

You can only do this by making a useful comment. But, don't just comment on some of the more popular blogs. A good way to find decent blogs to comment on is by looking for decent comments in the comment section of the more popular bloggers and clicking through to their blogs.

Hi,

I dont know exactly what could be the limit for posting comments in a single blog per day. I usually 10 comments into 10 different blogs per day. And yes blog commenting is a very legit way for getting back-links to our site.

Thanks,
Kennichi.
