What is the difference between the two versions of wordpress from a Seo point of view?. The hosted version is at wordpress.com and the version you must install on your own server space is wordpress.org. I believe wordpress.com sets your blog up as a subdomain and I am not completely clear on the SEO implications of this.

using wordpress.com, your blog seems to have some advantage on SE spider the content faster compared to hosting your own blog on new domains

Definitely an SEO advantage and more traffic too with the internal tagging / blogrolling system.

But with Wordpress.com it's difficult to make money because they don't allow many type of advertising programs including Google Adsense.

You are right, wordpress rules donīt allow Adsense.

Joel Comm, however, suggest using Phil Hordīs plug in to get around this problem. What do you think?.

Are you implying, then, using Blogger rather than Wordpress for monetizing your blog?

I think it's a matter of Wordpress.com policy to discourage advertising as they want "pure" bloggers that blog for non-monetary purposes.

If you use a workaround, and they get wind of it, they could just as easily terminate your account. I personally know one affiiate marketer who got her blog deleted for using affiliate links.

Thank you for your answer. I just started my blog with Wordpress, but I had in mind to place some adsense on it.

Will you recommend me then switching to blogger?

Thank you for your advice.

What I recommend is to invest $9 in your OWN domain, and then adding a blog on a subfolder:

http://www.mysite.com/blog

This work really great for SEO.

Best to use your own domain name and host privately.

It is best to register your own domain and monetize your blog the way you want. Its also good idea to register to wordpress.org to get an API key free that is required by some plugins.

Yes A blog on your own domain is the way to go. Some hosting accounts will even give you a free domain if you sign on for a year for around $70.

You can import the content from the WordPress.com blog to your self-hosted blog too.

If you host your wordpress page you will have the freedom to do so many more things to your page. Hosting your wordpress page with wordpress will not allow you to change and customize your template. It really is worth the $5 to host your site.

I agree with getting your own shared hosting and domain. I'm not knocking anything that someone else is doing, but for the minimal cost, why not go with your own hosting ?

It's much more professional.
