Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could offer guidance as to the best way to start a business that offers customized giftware & promotional items, framed artwork, and business products.
How do you find companies or manufacturers to make the customized gifts/products that you have designed?
Can you recommend any books or place on getting started in the giftware and promotional products industry?

Thier are alot of affiliate programs you could use.
From family crests to engraved glasses. I have seen alot of sites even ones that will print your designs and sell the product on apage they let you set up.
Like any other business, it just takes time to find a business partner to do your work. Google and the phone book can find you just about anything. My advise would be to get a business plan and spend lots of time planning it. If you find you don't know enough to answer the projections, or even make reasonable estimates, find a job that will teach you it. Otherwise you'll make almost nothing, or loose money. I know, I lost 6 months of time, at 20 hours a week, and $400 in my business venture with a cumulative (gross) earnings of less than $2.00. I didn't know jack about running an online business, and my results show that.

Well, you got some good ideas already.
But let me give you a suggestion:
Here’s my standard of selecting products which I can sell. I select quality products which will really benefit my customers.
If at all I select some filthy product, I will sell them effectively with my system but in return I will get refund request too which will damage my credibility.
Now if you think that there might be many who are selling these products, so they might have gone out dated and their market might have saturated, or these products will not sell well, here's what I do:
I never sell a single product by itself.
I select a bunch of products, say 5 or 10 and give it my own unique name, for example 'SimpleGlobalCash Pack' or 'Simple Global Cash Products' or something like that.
This gives the product my own unique identity and differentiates me from the crowd.
